Monday Monitor

NOv 16 – Monday Monitor

Head of School Report – PLEASE READ!

Dear MVCS Family,

Some of you have asked if we are planning to close the school.  You have noticed that we surveyed what you have for technology and connectivity at home, and we have shared the latest on COVID-19 protocol for educational institutions.

Our prayer is to NOT shut down.  WE want your children at school.  However, it is prudent to be prepared, Lord willing, for whatever He sends our way.

This past summer I shared the exciting news of a large donation to upgrade our school infrastructure and technology, and to hopefully get Chromebooks for all students.  Most of the work at the school is complete, but the specific school grade Chromebooks we wanted were not going to come in until the end of 2020, maybe, and were eventually cut from the project.  This is why we conducted the technology survey.

We have the iPads that we sent home in the spring when COVID hit and closed the school, but they are getting old and finicky. I would like to encourage you, since Christmas is around the corner, to investigate some of the great deals on computers and tablets for your children.

Here are a few that would work, kindly put together by our School Board Chairman, Pradeep Bokinala.  You can only order 1 per person and the quantities are limited, so look into them soon.

Laptop 1st Option: walmart.com HP-15-Laptop

A full windows laptop that’s compatible with Google Classroom

Laptop / Chromebook 2nd Option: walmart.com Lenovo Chromebook

Tablets:

Option 1 (8-inch screen)  (small screen, but your choice)

walmart.com Lenovo Tablet-M7Android

Option 2 (10-inch screen)

walmart.com/ Lenovo Tablet-E10 Android

Option 3 (10-inch screen) Samsung

bestbuy.com Samsung tablet

Again, we are NOT planning a shutdown.

If you go somewhere that requires quarantining, we trust you will do so, and move to the online remote learning for that time period.

If you know now that you will need quarantining, please let us know the time frame so teachers will be better prepared.

We need everyone to be careful so we can keep everyone in the building at MVCS.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

Students are encouraged to dress up in a costume to go with their favorite book and bring the book with them to school. Some costume guidelines include no costumes portraying evil, no weapons, and no superheroes. Students’ costumes must have prior approval from their teacher.

Open Position – Part-time Preschool Teacher

Mid Vermont Christian School seeks a dynamic Preschool teacher for ages 3-5, with demonstrated ability to work successfully with a range of students.  The ideal candidate will seek to become part of our learning community and place the student at the center of learning with various instructional techniques that meet the needs and capabilities of all students. MVCS places high value on communication with parents as we seek to partner with them as they raise their children. Associate degree in Early Education or Elementary Education and experience with Preschool  students preferred.

Mr. Ralph’s Corner

Not much to write about this week. I was in the woods for 10 hours over the weekend and never saw a deer. I remember not that long ago when I would hunt these same places and see 10 or 15 deer in a day. I do like hiking around in the woods, but sometimes I wonder if I need to carry that eight pound rifle around with me! I’ll just keep trying, and one of these days…

In homefront news, I’ve been putting new jambs, sill, and casings on a bow window. Working on a modular home is sure different from the fancy homes I used to work on here in Quechee. The company I worked for was called “Homes With Integrity,” and they definitely were. Our place on the other hand lacked the integrity part when it was built, so remodeling has surely been a challenge. I like to figure out these challenges, but they can be frustrating at times – just ask Thelma! She’s been busy working on her masterpiece quilts, which sure are beautiful (featured to the right). We like to compare our gifts of woodworking and quilt making. They are very similar in many ways. I’m writing this before students get here, so I’ll keep you posted on any successful hunters!

See ya!

Mr. Ralph

Late breaking news: Mr. Holleran scored with a nice buck over the weekend!

  • Pray for our students to have their eyes opened to God’s goodness as we move into a season of giving thanks – pray that they would see the Gospel for the Good News it truly is!
  • Pray for those who are isolated and lonely – pray we would all find ways to reach out and serve them in this strange time.
